Arunachala ('Red Mountain') is a hill in Tiruvannamalai district, Tamil Nadu, and a major pilgrimage site in India, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Throughout the year, pilgrims engage in a practice called girivalam or pradakshina, circumambulating the circumference of the mountain as an act of reverence. The Asta Lingams of Arunachala are 8 powerful Shiva Lingams placed at the cardinal and intercardinal points around Arunachala, forming a spiritual circuit for pradakshina, each linked to a specific , planet deity (Navagraha).
