| US Airforce Training Base 1950-56 over 300,000 airmen received basic training here in preparation for the Korean war and to support the NATO defense of western Europe. Sampson State Park was once a naval training station, then an Air Force base before becoming a state park. Military roads and buildings have been replaced with grasses, wildflowers, shrubs and trees on flat, rolling woodlands surrounding ravines overlooking Seneca Lake a NYS Finger Lakes. |
