Tractor Tynes tracks in the snow. With the downturn in weather over the recent days' farmers operating tractors have to remain vigilant and slightly alter their driving accordingly. Snow, ice and cold make operating a tractor more difficult and more dangerous. Here at that's Farming, we are always here to lend a helping hand and these are some top tips when driving and operating machinery in the snow. Breaking ability of the tractors is significantly affected by snow and ice even in 4x wheel drive tractors so act on the side of caution. For operating on the road keep a good distance from the vehicle in front. Where operating front loaders manoeuvring is made more difficult, with loads preferably kept low to improve traction. It is also advisable to stabilise the front load by having a counterbalance for the back of the tractor. Slow and steady wins the race. When you sit in the tractor, be it morning or evening allow the windows to defrost. Make sure your implements are correctly fixed similarly if there is a load it should be fastened tightly. There’s nothing worse than when you’re in the tractor and it stalls. Save yourself the trouble of air locking the tractor and spending a half-hour you haven’t got pumping till your hand is aching and freezing your ass off. It happens to us all so ensure that the tank is topped up with diesel. With the tractor being used nearly every day during the winter, ensure there are oil and water topped off also. A drum oil
