Spiš Castle is a ruin of a castle that occupies the summit of the travertine hill of Spiš Castle Hill. It forms the dominant feature of the wide area on the main road connecting the eastern Slovak regions of Spiš and Šariš. It is not only evidence of the development of architecture from the 12th to the 18th century in our country but, with an area of 3.9 hectares, it ranks among the top six largest castle complexes in Slovakia. Despite being elevated above the town of Spišské Podhradie, it is geographically located within the territory of the village of Žehra in the district of Spišská Nová Ves in the Košice region. The castle is a national cultural monument and, since 1993, it has been inscribed as part of the heritage ensemble of Levo?a, Spiš Castle, and surrounding monuments in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
