| Robert "Bob" Dole appears at a book signing for his work, `One Soldier`s Story: A Memoir,` in New York City on April 13, 2005. The Kansan, born on July 22, 1923, was severely wounded in World War Two. Dole was a Kansas U.S. Senator and leader of the Republicans there from 1985-1996. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Vice President in 1976 and for President in 1996. Dole received the Congressional Gold Medal on January 17, 2018 in Washington, DC. in the presence of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. |
