As the sun approaches the horizon, its light travels through a thicker layer of the atmosphere, allowing shorter wavelengths to scatter more effectively. This scattering leads to the warmer colors of red, orange, and yellow, which are less affected by the scattering process. This phenomenon, known as Rayleigh scattering, is key to understanding the vivid colors of dawn and dusk. The presence of atmospheric particles, such as dust and water vapor, can enhance the scattering effect, intensify the red and orange hues. Supermoon was rising behind clouds directly opposite this sunset.
