| Pictured is a brown pelican flying in the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge north of Rockport, Texas. The brown pelican is a piscivore, primarily feeding on fish. When foraging it dives bill first from a height of up to sixty to seventy feet above the ocean, submerging completely below the surface momentarily as it snaps up prey. The binomial name is Pelecanus occidentalis. |
