Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) in Fiordland National Park, New Zealand. Milford Sound is a fjord, not a sound, carved by ancient glaciers over hundreds of thousands of years. It is known for its sheer cliffs, towering mountains (such as the iconic Mitre Peak seen in the image), and dramatic waterfalls. The area receives frequent rainfall, which only enhances its beauty by creating numerous temporary waterfalls cascading down the cliffs. The M?ori people discovered the area over 1,000 years ago, visiting to fish, hunt, and collect pounamu (greenstone).
