Musician, singer, composer, lyricist, and cultural influencer Matti Caspi Caspi performs at Karmiel, Israel in July of 1988. He died on February 8, 2026, from cancer, at the age of 76. He was given the cultural equivalent of a state funeral the following day in Tel Aviv. His peers viewed Caspi as the greatest musician and composer of their generation. He was influenced significantly by Brazilian, Latin, and jazz music and rhythms. He was a collaborator with and producer of a long list of artists such as Leonard Cohen, Ehud Manor, Hava Alberstein, Shoshana Damari, Arik Sinai, Yehudit Ravitz, and Gali Atari, to name but a few. His peers viewed him as the greatest musician and composer of their generation.His mainstay instruments were piano and guitar, but early on, he became quite adept on the harmonica. Caspi was the recipient of numerous lifetime music awards and was also proficient on the mandolin, drums, percussion, accordian, and synthesizer.
