Amfilochia is located in the northwestern part of Aetolia-Acarnania, built amphitheatrically between two hills on the coast of the Ambracian Gulf. The town is known for its beautiful landscapes and serves as a sheltered port. Historically, until 1907, the town was known as Karvasaras, derived from the Turkish word for a roadside inn for caravans. it is sometimes referred to as the Bride of Amvrakikos due to its scenic beauty and location
