Yael Dayan, then 50, daughter of Israeli military hero Moshe Dayan, a political and social activist, makes a point discussing the feminist agenda for Israeli women at a conference in Jerusalem, Israel on November 29, 1989. She contended that most Israelis, women included, don't care and can't identify with the Kotel (Western Wall worshipping tradition separating men from women) issue. She noted her father and her brothers were not Bar-Mitzvahed. For her, the peace issue cannot be separated from the fight for equality. Dayan, a secular Jew, was a passionate fighter for peace (with security) and for women's rights, human rights and LGBTQ rights. She was a longtime Member of Knesset from the Labor Party and later with the Meretz Party. She died on May 18, 2024 at the age of 85.
