This Woodwasp or Horntail, Urocera Gigans, is resting on an upright tree stump. These insects are non-aggressive but larger than their Wasp cousins, but can sting if provoked. The long tail is an Ovipositor, to lay eggs in decaying wood. Scotland Aug 2025
