Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument is located in southern Utah. This photo was taken in the area called The Toadstools, an amazing collection of hoodoos, badlands, and bizarre rock formations. This area is located between the Cockscomb Fault and the southern section of Cottonwood Canyon Road just north of US 89. Brown and white cliffs mark two layers of the Grand Staircase. The area is called so for the spire-like pedestal rocks with boulders perched on top: Four hoodoos are visible.
