The ruins of St Benet`s Abbey stand on the banks of the River Thurne in Norfolk. The abbey was founded on the site of a 9th Century monastery by King Canute circa 1019 and conferred on it his manors of Horning, Ludham and Neatishead. In the mid 18th Century a farmer built a windmill, later converted to a wind pump, in the Gate House of the Abbey as seen here.
