South of the city of Oamaru in North Otago, the coast stretches for about 20 kilometres down past Kakanui to the mouth of the Waianakarua. Campbells Bay, Kakanui's main beach south of the headland, is 2km long and provides a surfable break and a safe swimming beach for all to enjoy
