Haast's eagle was the largest known eagle species, native to New Zealand, and is believed to have gone extinct around the 15th century. This massive bird of prey had a wingspan of up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) and primarily hunted moa, another extinct species. The disappearance of its primary food source, along with human activity, contributed to its extinction.
