The Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo, in Italian Palazzo Apostolico di Castel Gandolfo, is the Popes summer residence. It is a 17th century building designed by Carlo Maderno for Pope Urban VIII. Vatican spokesman Fr Federico Lombardi announced that Benedict would possibly retire to Castel Gandolfo after his resignation.
