The blue whale is the largest mammal on Earth, with the longest known life span of any animal species. It can reach lengths of up to 33 meters (110 feet) and can weigh up to 173 tons. Its heart is the size of a small car, and its tongue can weigh up to 3 tons. Its diet consists mainly of krill, which it swallows hundreds at a time through its massive mouth. Blue whales have incredibly powerful vocalizations, capable of travelling hundreds of miles across the ocean. They are believed to have the loudest voice of any animal species on the planet.
