| Schloss Herberstein is a magnificent castle in Austria, located in the Feistritz river valley near the small town of Buchberg bei Herberstein. Its origins date back to the 12th century, when the first fortifications were erected here. They were built in a strategic location in a river bend on a difficult to access high rock (450 meters). Over the centuries, they were successively expanded and modernized. In the second half of the 14th century, the castle bailey was enlarged, and a Gothic chapel of St. Catherine was located within it. The castle acquired its current shape during the last major reconstruction, which was carried out in the years 1648-1667 |
