| A dish of Japanese cuisine. Sushi Philadelphia roll. A Philadelphia roll is a type of makizushi (also classified as kawarizushi) sushi, usually made with smoked or raw salmon, cream cheese, and avocado, with rice on the outside (uramaki). It may also contain other ingredients such as other types of fish, including tuna, cucumber, green onions and sesame seeds. Like many Western sushi rolls, its design and name has been changed to target the American market, featuring rice on the outside and nori on the inside (sushi inside out) to appeal to a Western aesthetic. In the Pacific Northwest, the Philadelphia roll is often called the Seattle roll.
