| Erythrina crista galli Linn. is a deciduous shrub or small tree in the legume family, belonging to the thorn genus, with slightly prickly stems and petioles. Feathered compound leaves with 3 leaflets Small leaves are long ovate or needle shaped, with flowers and leaves growing together. The inflorescence grows at the top, with 1-3 flowers per node The flowers are deep red, the pods are about 15 centimeters long, brown, and the seeds are constricted The seeds are large and bright brown in color. The cockscomb thorn is native to Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
