| The Lauwersmeer was created after the Lauwerszee was closed in 1969. The discharge sluices ensure that the water from the Frisian storage basin and the Electra storage basin is discharged into the Wadden Sea. This happens when it is low tide. The lock is located in Lauwersoog.
