Broomrapes (Orobanche spp.) are parasitic plants that belong to the Orobanchaceae family. There are over 200 species of broomrapes, and they are found in temperate and subtropical regions worldwide. These plants are considered parasitic because they do not have chlorophyll and cannot produce their own food through photosynthesis. Instead, they rely on other plants for sustenance.
