Jesus on the cross. Antique cast iron statue on the cemetary in Melsele, Belgium. The statue dates from around the 1900's. It was made Leonard Van Aerschot. His iron foundry from Herentals, Belgium, is responsible for noteworthy pre 1910 funerary heritage and monuments in Belgium. With little incentive from authorities the funerary heritage is in danger of disappearing from view. Especially the smaller art directly related to graves is disappearing fastly with the rush from local authorities to clear cemetaries and graveyards with little attention for the art they destroy.
