Pictured is the `Annunciation Triptych`, a South Netherlandish oil on oak painting, circa 1430, on display in the Cloisters in New York City. Also known as the Merode Altarpiece, it is from the Workshop o Robert Campin. In the center the angel Gabriel is about to tell Mary she will be the mother of Jesus. In the right wing Joseph, who is betrothed to the Virgin, works in his carpenters shop. In the left wing a donor kneels with his wife and a messenger behind him. He appears to be witnessing the event in the central panel. The Cloisters is governed by the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Cloisters specializes in Medieval art and architecture with a focus on the Romanesque and Gothic periods.
