| Rio de Onor was a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Braganza, district of Braganza. This town has a unique feature in the Iberian Peninsula, consisting of forming a unit with the Spanish town of Rihonor de Castilla. Actually both towns are one, artificially divided by the border line. Due to this singularity, its inhabitants speak Spanish and Portuguese indifferently, both highly influenced by the autochthonous language: the almost extinct Rihonorés, a dialect of Leonés.? Among the Rihonoreses, the Spanish and Portuguese parts are called "povo de cima" and "povo de abaixo" respectively ("town above" and "town below"). |
