The Dar Uthman palace in the southern part of the madina in Tunis was built by Uthman Dey who ruled Tunis between 1598 and 1610. Built in the Hafsid style, it was repurposed as a storehouse of military supplies in the early nineteenth century and then became the residence of the prime minister of Muhammad III Sadiq Bey (aka Sadok bey) the ruler of Tunisia between 1859 and 1882. The rooms surround a central courtyard-garden
