Pictured is the bronze recognition of contributors plaque for the sculpture of Katharine Lee Bates by Lloyd Lillie on the front lawn of the Falmouth Public Library. She was born in Falmouth August 12th, 1859 and died in Wellseley March 28th, 1929. She taught English Literature at Wellesley for forty years and was the author of thirty-two books. She is best known for writing a poem that became the lyrics for America the Beautiful, maybe America's favorite patriotic hymn. Her sculpture was unveiled August 12th, 1986, the Falmouth Tricentennial.
